Behavioral Health Care Manager II

POSITION SUMMARY:
This FULL-TIME position ranges from $32.00-$34.00 per hour depending on experience and is located in Hanover, Maryland. The Behavioral Health Care Manager II is responsible for managing psychiatric and substance use disorder (SUD) treatment health benefits for facility-based and outpatient services. This role involves telephonic or written review of cases, ensuring that members receive access to medically necessary, quality behavioral healthcare in a cost-effective manner. The position requires strong clinical judgment, knowledge of UM Clinical Guidelines, and experience in behavioral health management. The ideal candidate will handle complex cases, collaborate with care managers, and contribute to departmental initiatives, with a focus on improving behavioral healthcare quality through effective case management., and related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Case Management: Manage and review psychiatric and substance abuse/SUD health benefits through telephonic or written communication. Assess member needs using appropriate screening criteria and clinical judgment to ensure access to necessary behavioral healthcare in alignment with UM Clinical Guidelines and contractual obligations.
- Clinical Assessment: Perform psychiatric and substance abuse/SUD assessments, coordinating case planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation to promote quality member outcomes and optimize the use of health benefits and community resources.
- Peer Review: Refer cases to Peer Reviewers as necessary, ensuring accurate assessments and decisions in complex situations.
- Support and Collaboration: Serve as a resource to other Behavioral Health Care Managers, providing guidance and assistance with more complex cases. Participate in inter- and intradepartmental teams, projects, and initiatives to improve departmental processes and member care.
- Documentation and Reporting: Utilize various software packages to compile and analyze data, prepare reports, and document case management activities. Ensure all documentation aligns with internal policies and procedures and supports effective case management.
- Compliance: Maintain a thorough understanding of relevant clinical guidelines, licensure requirements, and managed care regulations. Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards in the management of behavioral health cases.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Experience with child and adolescent population
- A minimum 3 years clinical practice as a BCBA
- Current active unrestricted Board-Certified Behavioral Analyst (BCBA )certification and/or state licensure required (Maryland).
- Prior utilization management experience preferred.
- Prior managed care experience preferred.
- Experience with Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) comprehensive and focused treatment modalities.
- The following professional competencies apply: Associates in this role are expected to have strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, problem-solving skills, facilitation skills, analytical skills, and computer skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Possible prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift and move up to 25 pounds at times.
- Standard hours of work Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 6:00 pm.
