POSITION SUMMARY:


ATHENA is seeking to hire two temporary contract employees to assist with buildings and grounds maintenance at the Big Stone Gap Office. Responsibilities include HVAC operation, plumbing, electrical repair, building maintenance, snow removal, landscaping, and general facility upkeep. Additional tasks may include assisting garage personnel, cleaning, and supporting surplus material sales. These positions require flexibility and a willingness to complete various tasks as needed. This Full-time position starts at $20-$25 per hour based on experience and is located in Big Stone Gap, VA.

  • HVAC operation and repair

  • General plumbing and electrical repair

  • Building repairs

  • Cubicle assembly and disassembly

  • Door/lock repair

  • Moving furniture

  • Snow removal

  • Mowing, trimming, and plant bed maintenance

  • Efficiently performs duties as assigned and works as a team within division and company.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications :

Required Skills/Abilities:



  • Knowledge of HVAC systems and basic repair techniques

  • General plumbing and electrical repair skills

  • Ability to perform building maintenance and repairs

  • Experience with furniture assembly and disassembly

  • Grounds maintenance skills, including mowing, trimming, and plant bed upkeep

  • Ability to perform snow removal and cleaning tasks

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to complete tasks efficiently

  • Ability to lift and move furniture and equipment as needed

  • Basic knowledge of safety protocols when handling equipment and performing repairs

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with a team

  • Proven, high quality customer service (internal and external customers).

  • Ability to work collaboratively.


 


Education and Experience:



  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Previous experience in building maintenance, facilities management, or related field preferred

  • Experience with HVAC, plumbing, and electrical work is a plus

  • Experience with ground maintenance or landscaping is desirable

  • ·Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and outdoor work.


Physical Requirements:



  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. 

  • Must be able to lift and move up to 25 pounds at times. 

  • Standard hours of work Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.

  • Travel may be required up to 10% of the time.
