Central Payroll Account Processor

POSITION SUMMARY:
We are currently recruiting for a Central Payroll Account Processor. This will provide instruction and advice to state employees and departments and act as a liaison between the department, other state agencies and vendors. This full-time position pays $21.22/hr, and is located in Providence, RI.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Conduct pre-audit of documents and/or computer files received in a centralized office in connection with, payroll vouchers, adjustment vouchers, state payrolls and pension payrolls in order to determine their accuracy, legality and compliance with federal regulations and state policies and procedures.
- Update and maintain state payroll and pension data.
- Examine personnel and pension action forms, payroll vouchers and payroll deductions to determine accuracy and proper authorization, and ensure associated payments and deductions are made as authorized.
- Correct erroneous payroll and pension payments, update computer files with such corrections and communicate with departments regarding corrections and the proper processing of payroll and pension forms.
- Assure the legality, accuracy, and propriety of department financial transactions by verifying their conformance to federal and state laws, personnel rules, contractual agreements, administrative regulations, and department policies and procedures.
- Assist in the preparation of periodic and annual employer tax returns, calendar year-end wage and tax statements (W-2’s), and duplicate and corrected year-end wage and tax statements (W-2’s).
- Review various business processes and practices used for effectiveness, economy, efficiency and compliance with federal and state laws, policies and procedures, as well as internal policies and procedures.
- Works under the general supervision of a superior from whom assignments are received in outline form; work is reviewed for conformance with federal and state laws and rules, as well as department policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:

Proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and correct payroll discrepancies

Ability to review and interpret financial documents and data accurately.

High level of accuracy and attention to detail in reviewing and processing payroll and pension documents.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact with departments and ensure proper processing of forms.

Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, especially during tax return preparations and year-end processes.
- Ability to multitask and be flexible.
- Highly motivated.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent, required.

Associates’ degree in HR, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

Experience in payroll processing, auditing, or a similar role.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Working hours M-F, 8:00am-4:00pm.
- Must be able to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
