POSITION SUMMARY:


 


We are currently recruiting a Dental Hygienist at $25.00 an hour. This is a full-time position that will report to the Dental Administrator for the Baltimore County Department of Health and is located at 9150 Franklin Square Drive, Baltimore Maryland, 21237.   


 


Dental hygienists are integral to the maintenance of oral health, conducting thorough assessments by reviewing patient medical histories and examining teeth and gums for potential issues. Proficient in taking and developing dental X-rays, they contribute significantly to precise diagnoses. Their expertise extends to effective teeth cleaning using manual and ultrasonic instruments to remove plaque, calculus, and stains. Beyond clinical duties, dental hygienists play a crucial role in educating patients on proper oral hygiene practices, offering personalized advice on brushing, flossing, and maintaining a healthy diet for optimal dental well-being.


 


In addition to their clinical responsibilities, dental hygienists contribute to the overall efficiency of a dental office by managing patient records, documenting treatment plans, and coordinating appointments. They work closely with dentists to discuss cases, share findings, and ensure comprehensive care. Hygienists also engage in preventive measures such as applying fluoride treatments and sealants. Their commitment to infection control, sterilization, and compliance with regulations ensures a safe and hygienic environment for both staff and patients, reflecting a holistic approach to oral healthcare and patient education.


 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Patient Examinations: Conduct comprehensive oral examinations, review medical histories, and diagnose dental conditions.


·         Treatment Planning: Develop and implement treatment plans for patients based on diagnoses.

·         Diagnostic Imaging: Utilize dental X-rays and other imaging techniques to aid in diagnosis.


·         Oral Health Education: Educate patients on oral hygiene practices and preventive measures for maintaining dental health.


·         Record Keeping: Maintain accurate patient records, documenting treatments, and updating medical histories.


·         Administrative Tasks: Oversee administrative tasks, including appointment scheduling, billing, and managing patient information.


·         Collaboration: Work collaboratively with dental hygienists, dental assistants, and other team members to ensure comprehensive patient care.


·         Oral Assessments: Conduct thorough oral assessments, examining teeth and gums for signs of diseases or abnormalities.


·         Diagnostic Imaging: Take and develop dental X-rays to contribute to accurate diagnoses.


·         Teeth Cleaning: Use manual and ultrasonic instruments to clean teeth, removing plaque, calculus, and stains.


·         Patient Education: Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, providing personalized advice on brushing, flossing, and maintaining a healthy diet.

Required Qualifications :

·         Proficient in a variety of dental procedures, including fillings, extractions, root canals, and crowns.


·         Skilled in diagnosing dental conditions through examinations and diagnostic imaging.


·         Compassionate and patient-focused, with the ability to address patient concerns and provide effective dental care.


·         Excellent communication skills to educate patients on oral health, explain treatment plans, and collaborate with the dental team.


·         Attention to detail in maintaining accurate patient records and ensuring precision in dental procedures.


·         Competent in using dental equipment, tools, and technology for diagnostics and treatments.

Education and Experience:


·         High School diploma or GED


·         Equivalent combination of education and experience


·         Two years of study in an accredited dental hygiene program preferred.


Physical Requirements:


·         Must be able to lift and move up to 25 – 50 pounds at times. 


·         Standard hours of work Monday through Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm – Hour unpaid lunch
