Environmental Health Associate

POSITION SUMMARY:
We are currently recruiting for an Environmental Health Associate. The Environmental Health Associate is responsible for performing a variety of support tasks related to environmental health. Your responsibilities will include drafting schematic drawings for water, well, and septic system permits using CAD software, completing permit packages for review, and explaining certification requirements to the public. You will also conduct on-site monitoring of wells to ensure compliance with regulations, collect soil and water samples, investigate animal bites, and transport specimens for testing. This role requires independent judgment and knowledge of environmental health laws and regulations and related duties as assigned. This FULL-TIME position ranges from $17.81-$35 an hour and is located in Chesterfield, VA.

- Investigate assigned animal bites within established timelines.
- Collect, prepare, and ship samples for lab analysis according to established protocols.
- Use sound judgment to manage time and resources effectively.
- Maintain good communication with local officials and veterinarians.
- Conduct annual inspections of marinas, boating access facilities, and sewerage systems to ensure compliance with Marina Regulations.
- Inspect campgrounds, seasonal lodging, and tourist establishments as required by relevant regulations.
- Investigate assigned complaints and document findings.
- Assist in implementing the onsite sewage and water program through well construction inspections and the review of operation and maintenance reports.
- Evaluate sites for private water wells and assist with permit drafting, reporting results to Environmental Health Specialists (EHS).
- Participate in developing department goals, objectives, and systems
- Participate in staff meetings and attend other meetings and seminars as assigned.
- Recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures, to continually improve efficiency of the department and services performed.
- Efficiently performs duties as assigned and works as a team within division and company.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Skills in composition of reports, data entry and effective communication
- Proficient in basic computer software programs
- Ability to conduct inspections and investigations in all areas of environmental health, to work outdoors and perform moderately strenuous physical labor during all seasons
- Skills in problem solving essential
- Ability to work with diverse cultural backgrounds
- A valid State Driver's License is required to operate a state vehicle or if operating a personal vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the agency
- Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills within the English language.
- Proven, high quality customer service (internal and external customers).
- Ability to work collaboratively.
- Solid ability to analyze situations carefully and adopt appropriate courses of action.
- Ability to understand and adhere to the duties, methods, and procedures required by the position.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

- Ability to effectively communicate to large and small group audiences.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent, required.
- A bachelor’s and/or master’s degree preferred.
- Experience in environmental health support.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift and move up to 25 pounds at times.
- Standard hours of work Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.
- Travel may be required up to 10% of the time.
