POSITION SUMMARY:
We are currently recruiting for a Nutritionist Associate. The Nutritionist Associate is responsible for independently determining nutrition eligibility of applicants/clients within program guidelines and independently prescribes appropriate food packages and related duties as assigned. This FULL-TIME position starts at $35.00 per hour and is located in Winchester, VA.

- Conducts dietary assessment.
- Assessments for health risks.
- Provides nutrition certification counseling to clients/families.
- Prescribes appropriate WIC food package.
- Determines frequency /content of follow-up nutrition education.
- Provides appropriate referrals.
- Monitors client care, follow-up recommendations and referrals.
- Prepares nutrition education materials/aids.
- Provides limited nutrition consultation to internal/external customers.
- Coordinates client care to improve health care outcomes.
- Consults with health care providers to develop care plans.
- Provides in-service education to paraprofessionals and record review.
- Provides in-service training to paraprofessionals regarding scheduled low-risk group nutrition education contacts.
- Collects and records information.
- Completes Local Agency Coordinator’s Quarterly Activity Report (WIC-398) (if functioning as local agency breastfeeding coordinator
- Creates a client friendly environment.
- Creates a breastfeeding friendly environment.
- Plans and schedules nutrition education classes.
- Follows the Nutrition Education section of the appropriate policies and procedures.
- Provides basic client nutritional services; interviews participants according to protocol, determining nutritional goals and eligibility requirements for participation in the WIC program.
- Conducts diet and health assessments and determines nutritional risk required in the certification process.
- Nutritional education provided to participants regarding identified nutritional and/or medical risks in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Provides individual or group follow-up education sessions.
- Participate in developing department goals, objectives, and systems.
- Participate in staff meetings and attend other meetings and seminars as assigned.
- Recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures, to continually improve efficiency of the department and services performed.
- Efficiently performs duties as assigned and works as a team within division and company.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Experience obtaining blood samples/finger sticks and taking heights and weight of individual.
- Training, job experience, or coursework in Nutrition, Dietetics, food services, or a related area preferred.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in nutrition or related field preferred.
- Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills within the English language.
- Proven, high quality customer service (internal and external customers).
- Ability to work collaboratively.
- Solid ability to analyze situations carefully and adopt appropriate courses of action.
- Ability to understand and adhere to the duties, methods, and procedures required by the position.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize tasks.
- Ability to effectively communicate to large and small group audiences.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in nutrition or related field preferred.
- Required to complete WIC Web Based Nutrition Paraprofessional Training
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift and move up to 25 pounds at times.
- Standard hours of work Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.
- Travel may be required up to 10% of the time.
