Peer Support Specialist

Job Title: Peer Support Specialist
Work Location: Hope Center, 365 Airport Rd, New Castle, DE 19720
Unit: Addiction and Transition Services
Work Schedule: 1 day per week, 8 hours (weekends required)
Pay Rate Range: $20.00 per hour

Position Summary

The Peer Support Specialist will leverage their lived experience with mental illness, addiction, co-occurring conditions, and/or recovery to support individuals in similar life circumstances. This individual will work closely with clients to foster recovery, resilience, and independence, particularly during transitions between levels of care. The position is located on-site at the Hope Center in New Castle, DE, and will require weekend availability.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct interviews with clients, family members, and relevant contacts to obtain detailed case history.


• Support clients in identifying, documenting, and overcoming challenges and goals.


• Maintain an active caseload, providing ongoing support and encouragement to clients and their families.


• Prepare written narrative reports to document client interactions and progress.


• Assist clients in developing natural resources and roles within the community (e.g., employee, friend, student).


• Collaborate with current supports (e.g., family, clinicians, housing providers) to ensure cohesive recovery planning.


• Help clients apply for benefits or services when needed.


• Make routine follow-up calls to monitor client progress and maintain contact.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.


• High School Diploma or GED required.


• Must have direct personal experience living with and recovering from mental illness and/or addiction.
