Job Title: Psychiatric Social Worker III (BHCM III)
Location: Fernhook, 14 Central Ave, New Castle, DE 19720
Department: Division of Mental Health and Substance Abuse
Work Schedule: Saturday and Sunday, Second Shift (16 hours/week)
Start Date: February 2, 2025
Work Arrangement: On-site
Weekends Required: Yes
Pay Rate Range: $28.00 


Position Summary:


The Psychiatric Social Worker III will provide professional social work services in a psychiatric outpatient setting, supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, mental illness, or emotional disturbances. The role emphasizes helping clients achieve social, emotional, and physical stability and independence aligned with community norms.


This position involves direct service delivery, risk and safety management, assessment, and treatment planning, while working as part of a collaborative behavioral health team.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Conduct interviews with clients, families, and relevant contacts to obtain comprehensive case histories

  • Maintain a therapeutic caseload and deliver individualized counseling and support services

  • Develop and implement treatment plans tailored to client needs

  • Refer clients to appropriate service providers and coordinate care

  • Support staff in crisis situations or intervene directly when necessary

  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings for case evaluation and planning

  • Offer consultative support to state/private agencies and engage in community-based projects as needed

  • Monitor and improve behavioral health programs and service effectiveness


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Strong understanding of child, adolescent, and adult psychology

  • Knowledge of developmental, mental, and emotional disorders and their societal impacts

  • Proficiency in counseling techniques and social casework methods

  • Familiarity with community resources and how to connect individuals to appropriate support services

  • Skilled in conducting interviews and evaluating client needs

  • Ability to evaluate programs and make recommendations for service improvements


Minimum Qualifications:



  • Master’s Degree in Behavioral or Social Science or a related field

  • Experience in case management

  • Experience providing clinical treatment, counseling, or assessing eligibility for services as part of a treatment team
