Job Title: Police Department Psychologist



  • Location: 2301 Research Blvd, Suite 205, Rockville, MD 20850

  • Rate: $50.00

  • Schedule: Monday-Friday,

  • Hours: Flexible based on employee and client schedules

  • On-call (rotating basis, every other week, 24-hour on-call availability)

  • In-person and in-office work with some telework options (3 days in-office, 2 days telework depending on caseload, subject to change based on program needs)

POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking a dedicated and flexible Police Department Psychologist to provide mental health assessment, intervention, case management, and support services to police officers, professional staff, and their immediate family members. This role involves routine and emergency services in individual, couple, group, or family formats. The psychologist will also be responsible for providing trauma-informed care, critical incident support, developing curriculum and training programs, and offering subject matter consultation.


 


Key Responsibilities:



  • Mental Health Services: Provide routine and emergency mental health assessments, interventions, referrals, and case management services to police officers, professional staff, and their immediate family members.

  • Critical Incident Support: Provide initial and follow-up support for personnel involved in critical incidents, including on-scene response and ongoing care.

  • Training and Curriculum Development: Develop and deliver training on topics such as stress management, substance abuse, critical incident reactions, resilience, suicide awareness and prevention, for recruits, call takers/dispatchers, supervisors, the Peer Support Team, and specialized units.

  • Consultation and Outreach: Offer subject matter expertise in support of departmental initiatives, including in-service programming and outreach.

  • On-Call and Supervision: Participate in on-call duties as needed and provide clinical supervision for Peer Support Team activities while on-call.


Required Qualifications :
 

Qualifications:



  • Education & Licensure: Must hold a valid Maryland License (Psychologist).

  • Experience:

  • Previous experience working with military, first responder populations, or private practice settings preferred.

  • Experience in trauma-related issues, working with families and couples is highly valued.

  • Ability to work effectively with high-stress, high-energy populations, such as police officers and first responders.


Training and Skills:



  • Strong knowledge of evidence-based treatment modalities and best practices in clinical treatment.

  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced environment with varying caseloads and unpredictable work demands.

  • Experience in developing and delivering training on psychological and stress management topics is a plus.

Education and Experience:



  • Doctoral degree in psychology

  • Must hold a valid Maryland License (Psychologist).

  • A Corrections Background Check is required.


 


Travel Requirements:



  • Travel to local district sites for trainings and client support as needed.


Interview Process:



  • First round: 4-panel virtual interview

  • Second round: Virtual interview

  • Security clearance and background check will be conducted through the police department, separate from the standard screening process.


Physical Requirements:



  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to lift and move up to 25 pounds at times.

  • Standard hours of work Monday through Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm

  • Travel may be required up to 10% of the time.
