ATHENA Consulting is an award-winning staffing firm serving state and local governments. We are currently recruiting for a Residential Instructor for one of our clients located in Starke, FL.


 


 


Any/Weekend/Holidays/Varies 8/10/12 hours 1st/2nd/3rd shifts


 


Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:

•       Knowledge of military protocol, techniques and methods.
•       Knowledge of mental or behavioral characteristics of at risk youth.
•       Knowledge of self as a youth worker, including professional ethics, boundaries, and confidentiality.
•       Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communications.
•       Knowledge of Microsoft Windows software and internet.
•       Ability to prepare correspondence and administrative reports.
•       Ability to work independently.
•       Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
•       Ability to lead, train and supervise at risk-youth.
•       Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
•       Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
•       Ability to work outside in extreme weather.


Required Qualifications :

(1) Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.


(2) Must have and maintain a valid State of Florida driver’s license.
(3) Must possess or be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification within 45 days of employment. 

Other job-related requirements for this position:

(1) Incumbent may be exposed to aggressive / hostile at-risk youth.
(2) Incumbent’s work is frequently outdoors, subject to inclement weather and environmental conditions.
(3) Incumbent may frequently work a non-standard workweek.

Working hours:
(A) Daily shift work may rotate.
(B) Total hours in workweek 40.0.
(C) Incumbent may work a nonstandard work week (which might require rotation between day, evening, and overnight shift, and may include weekends and holidays.)


Duties and Responsibilities for a Residential Instructor / Cadre Position:

•       Lead by example and mentor Cadets on what it means to display discipline and respect on a daily basis.

•       Teach and correct negative / disruptive behavior by using various means of physical exercises and team-building activities.

•       Informally counsel Cadets on their weekly performance by using verbal and written evaluations.

•       Encourage Cadets to seek further educational test preparation opportunities in those academic areas where additional support is needed most.

•       Educate Cadets in the areas of physical fitness, health & hygiene, barracks maintenance, time management, teamwork, drill & ceremony, leadership, and followership.

•       Supervise Cadets’ daily activities in accordance with academy’s training schedule.

•       Monitor Cadets while on duty to ensure Cadets attend and are on time for academic classes, academy events, and training.

•       Ensure Cadets report for assigned duties and specific personal appointments in the correct uniform and on time.

•       Maintain 100% accountability of Cadets while they are in the residential phase of the program.

•       Responsible for the welfare and safety of Cadets while they are in the assigned area of the platoon, ensuring they do not endanger themselves or others through negligence or misconduct.

•       Provide documentation and communication for supervisors and / or academy administrators in the event of Cadet’s misconduct or serious incident.

•       Provide fellow team members with assistance in carrying out their assigned duties as needed.

•       Conduct daily preliminary inspections of living quarters, Cadet’s uniform and personal appearance in preparation for inspections.

•       Document each Cadet’s progress on the weekly assessment form in the Cadet file.

•       Operate State owned and/or Federal leased vehicles to transport program participants on required missions.


• Maintain accountability of cadets attending a residential, at-risk youth school.
• Responsible for the welfare and safety of cadets in assigned area of responsibility (platoon), ensuring they do not endanger themselves or others by negligence or misconduct.
• Monitor cadets to ensure they report to training on time, ready to learn, as required.
• Educate cadets in the areas of physical fitness, personal hygiene, drill and ceremony, barracks maintenance, time management, teamwork, leadership, and fellowship.
• Lead by example and mentoring cadets about what it means to display discipline and respect in life. Conduct preliminary inspections daily in preparation for regular inspections.
• Teach and correct behavior using various means of physical exercises and team-building activities.
• Informally counsel cadet's performance weekly in (verbal and written), or as needed, in areas requiring improvement and heightened concentration.
• Provide documentation and communication for supervisors and/or Academy administrators in the event of cadet misconduct or serious incidents.
• Enter information of cadets' progress into computerized database weekly.
• Operate State owned and/or federally leased vehicles and golf carts.
• Transport program participants as needed.






REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:



  • High school diploma or GED
