POSITION SUMMARY:


 


We are currently recruiting a Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention Program Coordinator. This part-time position pays $31.07/hr, and is located in Providence, RI.


 


Rhode Island Department of Health’s Violence & Injury Prevention Program (RIDOH VIPP) is working with the Department of Homeland Security on the following initiative:


 


The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships (CP3) strengthens our country’s ability to prevent targeted violence and terrorism nationwide, through funding, training, increased public awareness, and partnerships across every level of government, the private sector, and in local communities. Leveraging an approach informed by public health research, CP3 brings together mental health providers, educators, faith leaders, public health and safety officials, social services, nonprofits, and others in communities across the country to help people who are on a pathway to violence before harm occurs.


 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establish and convene an advisory group to fill the gaps between existing programming by assessing, planning, and delivering programs that will help support the decrease of risk factors and increase protective factors associated with violence and terrorism prevention.

  • Host monthly meetings with grant subrecipients to obtain project updates and reporting requirements and document progress and barriers experienced.

  • Attend relevant meetings locally via zoom and in person. Regional and national meeting attendance will be required if virtual options are available. Document action items and outcomes of meetings to brief leadership weekly.

  • Participate in training opportunities, workgroups and other relevant educational opportunities provided by Department of Homeland Security and other violence prevention organizations.

  • Review and inform key personnel about current landscape, resources, and best practices for program implementation.

  • Attend monthly TVTP project officer calls.

  • Supports with project design, timelines, workplans, implementation, program evaluation and reporting.

  • Coordinate local training logistics and assist with development of content as needed.

  • Participate in Division for Community Health and Equity, Center for Health Promotion, and Violence and Injury Prevention internal team meetings. Knowledge, Skills, and Capacities

Required Qualifications :

Required Skills/Abilities:




  • A thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of health or science program administration as it applies to a health or science program and then ability to apply such knowledge in assisting with the coordination, planning, and organization of a health or science program.

  • Ability to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of a health or science program and to make recommendations to a superior for improvements and/or maintenance.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, associates, state, federal and local officials, and the general public.

  • Ability to prepare written reports.

  • Ability to communicate, summarize, and translate technical information to non-technical audiences.

  • Ability to multitask and be flexible

  • Highly motivated



Education and Experience:




  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.

  • Graduation from a college of recognized standing with specialization in public health, public administration, business administration, hospital administration, or a related field.

  • Experience in a responsible position involving hospital, public, business, or health administration.

  • Or, any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.



Physical Requirements:




  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.




  • Working hours M-F, between 8:00am-4:30pm




  • Must be able to lift and move up to 25 pounds




  • Hybrid with at least 1 day in the office. Fully remote after 1 month. In office participation is needed on occasion. Advance notice will be given. Day in office is negotiable but must be on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday.



  • Approximately 1-2 meetings/events per month, varying in distance from the Cannon Building. The frequency of travel depends on the month.

  • Occasional weekends and evenings required at two weeks' notice.
