This FULL-TIME position is $15.35 per hour depending on experience and is in Chesapeake, VirginiaThe  Toll Collector is responsible for To collect tolls and classify vehicles on automated electronic equipment provide change, ensure safe and smooth traffic flow and provide quality customer service. Toll collector works as essential (alpha) personnel in support of a twenty-four (24) hour/day operation and related duties as assigned.




 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates vehicle classification console, receipt printer, etc.

  • Observes and classifies vehicles.

  • Collects and records tolls in a safe, secure, and expedient manner.

  • Collects receipts for tolls.

  • Equipment Used: Toll collection classification consoles, receipt printer, intercom, phone, and other equipment as required.

  • Responsibility and accountability for the associated change fund.

  • Maintains a cash drawer and provides change to patrons. Counts and verifies contents of cash drawer.

  • Provides directions to patrons upon request.

  • Distributes maps, brochures, and publications. Allows for passage by emergency vehicles.

  • Completes forms in a clear and legible manner as needed.

  • Counts, wraps, and accounts for monies, scripts, and passes received

  • Performs work under the supervision of the Toll Collection Supervisor or Toll Collection Assistant Supervisor.

  • Participate in developing department goals, objectives, and systems

  • Participate in staff meetings and attend other meetings and seminars as assigned.

  • Recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures, to continually improve efficiency of the department and services performed.

  • Efficiently performs duties as assigned and works as a team within division and company.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Ability to stay in a confined area for a long period, ability to prepare and analyze written or computer data.

  • Visual accuracy for depth perception, night and peripheral vision.

  • Ability to count and provides corrects change.

  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely.

  • Ability to accurately count money.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and comfort with technology and software tools.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy in managing records and processes.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for professional interactions with team members and stakeholders.

  • Basic troubleshooting skills to address technical or system-related issues.

  • Adaptability and flexibility to manage shifting priorities and deadlines.

  • Self-motivated and proactive in identifying and solving problems.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:



  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • 1+ year experience in handling cash customer service and data recording.


Physical Requirements:



  • Position requires walking, reaching, standing, grasping and repetitive motion.

  • Able to work in all weather conditions and stand for long periods of time.

  • Must be capable of walking throughout toll plaza and climbing stairs frequently to staff toll booths and to provide coverage for toll collector break times.

  •  Must be able to lift up safety cones and bar assembly weighing up to 25 lbs.

  • Ability to carry a change fund and supplies of up to 10 lbs.
