ATHENA Consulting is an award-winning staffing firm serving state and local governments.


We are currently recruiting for a Vocational Counselor to provide support to one of our clients located in Olyphant PA. The salary is commensurate with experience. Positions offers benefits and requires a pre-employment criminal background check, fingerprinting and drug screen.


 


The Vocational Counselor evaluates Social Security and Medical Assistance cases and decides appropriate course of action for record. Processes and completes file work according to consultant review and case type in a timely manner.


 


Familiarity with Social Security Rules and Regulations, Disability Evaluation under Social Security, Listings of Impairments and Medical Vocational Rules and Grid is required.


 


Master’s Degree and medical records background desired or equivalent work experience will be considered. Must have excellent phone/people skills and able to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to multi-task and work with minimal supervision and have excellent problem-solving skills including researching why records have not been attained. Must be able to meet tight deadlines. Must have excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word & Excel and be able to meet deadlines in a fast paces dynamic work environment.

Job Responsibilities:



  • Evaluate Social Security and Medical Assistance cases, decide appropriate course of action for record, process and complete file work according to consultant review and case type in a timely manner for ARG-PA and ARG-CO.



  • Review certified cases and outline for letters or Vocational Reports in date order, in timely manner, and within contractual agreements-PA.



  • Review all incoming medical records & applications-CO.



  • Review and sign off Medical Assistance Only cases in date order.



  • Prepare letter or Vocational Report utilizing knowledge of Social Security Rules and Regulations for ARG-PA and analysis to Colorado DCD of listings of Impairments.



  • Adhere to 20 minute maximum for dictated Vocational Report.



  • Prepare Counselor denial letters of daily cases due to insufficient information.



  • Review files, highlighting specific key information needed by doctor for review, and determines the specialty to review the case, i.e. Internist, Psychologist, or Pediatrician.



  • Make suggestions to DCD for file development or send case to MD/PHD if records are in order.



  • Assist DCD as needed with phone calls to client provider/case worker.



  • Review cases after approved by MD/PHD and prepare closing summary.



  • Complete supervisory review on every case to verify accuracy. Make corrections if necessary or return to counselor for corrections.



  • Complete other duties as assigned by Project Director.



  • Provide annual training to DAP Advocates across the state, including new Advocate training in terms of the Listings of Impairments, Five Step Sequential Evaluation, Social Security Rules and Regulations, and changes in Social Security Law.



  • Attend small group DAP meetings across the state, generally assigned by geographic territories, scheduled by DPW supervisors to provide advocates with personal training and updates on an as needed basis.



  • Consult with DAP Advocates, caseworkers, medical providers, and clients to answer questions, provide guidance, and develop cases.



  • Keep Arbor/ETSF/EQUUS Legacy vision, values and mission at the forefront of decision making and action.



  • Assure that the EQUUS Legacy vision is followed.



  • Ensure that HIPAA policies and procedures are followed in handling of client information.



  • Ensure that annual training is completed on time.



  • Adhere to office policies and procedures.
